"What of you?" Moira asked of Gavin after Gustav had finished. "What brings ye to the aid of strangers?"

They had finally decided to stay for the night. In his opinion it had taken much longer than it really should have but this was the risk you took with a crew that you were unfamiliar with. He positioned himself with his back against a wall that allowed him to quickly look down both passageways where it would be most likely for an undead to wander through. He didn't really trust these people he had just met enough to literally watch his back as such. He was sure that they would call something out if they actually managed to see something it was just that he didn't trust their eyes. After content that nothing was going to end up stabbing him in the back, he spread out the weapons he had been using in front of him and looked over them with a careful eye. It was very easy for weapons to get damaged especially rather cheap simple ones like what he was using. A chip on a blade could mess up the balance making throwing it accurately something nigh impossible. He kept a few extra daggers just in case, swapping one of the daggers he had been using out with one he had stored in his pouch he slowly began to put the weapons back. The dagger had not really had anything TOO wrong with it, just a small chip near the end. But it was something small like that which could end up getting a man killed.
He listened to the conversation between Gustav and Moira while he worked paying only a little real attention to it. Gustav had been hard headed and a bit foolish in his book, almost like a child spewing excuses. All this 'Honor' of his would end up being the death of him. Gavin could kind of understand it, he did what he said he would. Word is his bond kind of thing. But the man took it to levels beyond what was rational, he wouldn't be able to do what he said if he was dead. It was really the reason he was here now, he had said he would help with the undead though he wasn't really aware of what that meant in truth. But he said he would do it so he would. Maybe a small part of him wasn't fond of the idea of that kid growing up without anyone to count on and promised before he had put too much thought into it. But it was mostly the gold, He tried to convince himself as he let his gaze shifted to Moira. It seems she had asked him pretty much what he had just been thinking about.
After thinking for a moment he decided on a response, "Gold." After he said it he stayed quiet for a moment before giving a small nod to signify that was all he was going to say. She was an odd woman, while hunting for her children made a stop to kill some undead. It wasn't something he could claim to understand though that wasn't the reason why she seemed so odd to him. It was the fact that while hunting she seems to have made no stop to pick up any kind of combat gear. Sure she had a weapon but there was a lot more to surviving than that. Another person he would need to keep an eye on. Like a pup bounding along behind bigger hounds she was following without really thinking of the risk. She was like Gustav in that way, neither of them seemed to think things out logically. If she ended up dying here due to lack of equipment then who would find her kids? They were both going to be a real handful.

Moira opened her mouth to ask where he was expecting to get such gold but then thought better of it. If he thought there was gold to be found by defeating the Kael, then who was she to disillusion him. She just needed to ensure that none of her children had been brought below before she could head for Cumbrae. If any of them had made it to the pub, then Cumbrae was where they'd be.
She looked to the priest but already knew of his story. The last of their odd lot was dead to the world asleep. He seemed the worst injured of the lot and she hoped the rest did him good. It had been hard going to get this far and this was their second sojourn into the catacombs. Let them hope that it was their last and they could defeat this curse and move on.
She sat in silence for a while before boredom set in. She really wished that she'd brought her knitting with her. It always relaxed her and made the time go by that much quicker. Finally, she turned back to the man named Gavin and tried to elicit some further conversation from the man.
"Where do ye hail from?" she asked quietly.

Some time passed as the group sat in silence, he was not quite tired enough to actually fall asleep yet. Something about being in a tomb with roaming undead put him on edge. The silence was interrupted by Moira again as she asked him something he had not heard in a while. Where had he come from? He considered this for a short while, he had never really identified with one location of people. Maybe if he had been raised among them with customs ingrained he could have taken pride in his people like others did. But as it was the closest thing he could identify with were the streets where he had spent most of his life and the clans, guilds, and gangs that he had to maneuver around. Those are the things that seemed real to him. At the end of his long considering pause he finally responded, "Streets. Thieves and crime." He paused for a moment getting a feel for the words that he had said, finding them to be close to what he intended he gave a satisfied nod. It provided enough information to answer her questions about him with a little extra.

Moira could tell that Gavin wasn't much for conversation and less so on detail. Perhaps her own skills of conversation were a bit rusty and it wasn't Gustav's fault for nodding off at the end of his thought. Conversation with family was much different than speaking with strangers and she hadn't met many a stranger in a long time. She pushed thoughts of family from her mind and concentrated on the task at hand. Strangers or not, they held the same goal. To stop the Kael from rising. That was enough for now.
