After a tearful reunion with her daughters, Moira sought out Quinn once more.
“Quinn,” she said earnestly. “Cormac be still missing and I’m going back to look fer him. I need to ask ye a favor. When ye left Eliador, was there anything at the smithy that I could borrow? Armor that might fit me, a longsword, a polearm of some kind? A glaive, a ranseur, anything? I can bring it back to ye here after, as well as whatever Pal and I ken carry.” She showed him the lightning singe marks through her wool coat and continued. “I’m just not prepared fer what we’re goin’ after.”
The momentum that had carried her through the catacombs had run out after she’d opened that door and realized how ill prepared she’d been, and still was. She had no money and no time to earn it. If Cormac were still alive after more than a week, it would be a miracle. A second miracle. The first had been that her Aile and Fenny had survived and found refuge in Cumbrae. And that from the aid of her new traveling companions. It must have been fate that led her to them after they had saved her daughters. Perhaps it was fate that would allow them to save her son as well.
In any case, she needed to be better prepared than she’d been. And for that, she needed the help of those that survived from Eliador. If she could do something for them, then maybe they could do something that would help her find Cormac.

"Aye, mayhaps there might be. I done grabbed what was most worth saving b'for we fled. I got me longsword well n hand an what few coins I managed ta earn during tha harvest fair last moonth. All tha horseshoes ya can want fer, but there be naught else there but blanks fer blades an a few rough done daggers. I did have me a fair set o chain mail armour that I had made up fer ol Thames, much good it did him in in tha end. Never even got ta try it on b'fer he was cut down. But ta be sure, whatever ye can find is yers.....if'n ya mean ta go off and look fer yer son yerself that is."
"Quinn glares at Moira with a knowing expression as though he can see what she intends to do."
"I feel a need ta remind ye that ye still have two girls ta look after here in Cumbrae who need their mother more than ever. Those lads that saved us from Eliador seem they know their way round a fight well enough. That stout lad Gustav seems a good man too. I'm certain that they will do all they can to find Cormac, an I bet they can get along just fine without yer help too. Not that I have a mind ta stop ye, though. I just think ye should stay here an see to it that yer girls are raised proper."
"So if'n ya don't mind me ask'n lass, do you intend to go back with Gustav and his friends when they leave?"

“Aye,” Moira replied to the blacksmith resolutely, “I do plan on goin’ back fer Cormac. Aily and Fenny are safe here but I need to find my son. If he be alive, I cannae’ leave him out there alone.
“Gustav and the others be good men but I need to be there. I need ta know that I did everything I could for all my children.
“I thank ye for the chain mail and wish ye the best here.” With a final hug, she left the big blacksmith behind.
Hopefully not for the last time.
